The site of Dougga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is situated on a spur overlooking the fertile Mejerdah Valley. It spans several dozen hectares and spans several historical periods. Most of the monuments at the site are exceptionally well-preserved; some, such as the Capitol and the theater, were “restored” during a campaign carried out in the aftermath of World War I by prisoners of war.
