Mosaic depicting a Nereid on a seahorse, late 2nd century AD. The archaeological museum of El Djem, the ancient city of Thysdrus, was established on the site of a Roman villa, whose spatial layout it recreates: a central courtyard surrounded by a peristyle—an open-air portico—that provides access to the rooms. On display there are artifacts—sculptures, mosaic panels, ceramics, and more—from excavations conducted in Thysdrus as well as in the surrounding area.
