Presided over by Mr. Foued Mebazaa, interim President of the Republic, this ceremony served as an opportunity to pay tribute to all those who sacrificed themselves for the independence and sovereignty of the homeland. Mr. Foued Mebazaa saluted the flag to the strains of the national anthem and reviewed a detachment from the three branches of the armed forces that rendered him honors. He then laid a wreath at the foot of the martyrs’ memorial before reciting the Fatiha in their memory. The ceremony was attended by all members of the Provisional Government, including, first and foremost, the Prime Minister, the Mufti of the Republic, and several high-ranking officers of the National Army.
