August 15, 2011: Following several authorized and unauthorized demonstrations in downtown Tunis, clashes broke out on the hill and in the alleys near Habib Bourguiba Avenue between rioters and police. Stones were thrown at tear gas canisters starting at 11 a.m. and continuing throughout the afternoon. The demonstrations, held as part of the commemoration of the January 14 revolution, were organized under the slogan: “Loyal to the souls of the martyrs and for the realization of the revolution’s goals.”
