December 1, 2011: University students and faculty members gathered to defend rights and freedoms in response to the recent events in Manouba, focusing on the ban on the niqab on campus. Demonstrations and sit-ins took place in Bardo, across from the National Assembly. The night before, a small group of about a hundred people—including both activists from Doustourna (fighting against the centralization of power) and young people from Gafsa (opposing the SPG competitive exam and fighting against unemployment)—set up their tents along the parliament’s fences.
