December 3, 2011: The third day of the Bardo 1 sit-in. A new confrontation erupted between, on one side, the sit-in protesters demonstrating against the internal political maneuvering within the Constituent Assembly and, on the other side, more than two thousand Ennahda activists who had come to support the new government and keep in check about a hundred aggressive Salafists. The day’s clashes were purely verbal, thanks to Ennahda’s impressive security detail, which, together with the police, managed to contain the Salafists; however, once night fell, the Salafists attacked the sit-in protesters, who were protected by the police.
