January 28: Ahmed Brahim of Ettajdid, leaders of the new opposition coalition in Tunis; nearly 10,000 protesters gathered at the call of civil society and the new political and opposition coalition for a peaceful march against violence, in support of freedom of expression, and to defend and promote the democratic values of the Revolution. The customary counter-demonstration by Ennahdha activists went virtually unnoticed in the face of the massive crowd of demonstrators who had gathered to “defend individual and public freedoms” and protest against “violence and religious extremism.”
