April 9: On Habib Bourguiba Avenue and in the adjacent side streets, clashes broke out between police and protesters who had gathered on the avenue to commemorate the martyrs and show support for unemployed graduates from the interior of the country. The police prevented any gatherings on the avenue throughout the day, triggering clashes involving tear gas and stone-throwing, as well as numerous arrests.
