June 13, Ettahrir Square, Tunis: The leader of Tunisia’s ruling Islamist Ennahda party, Rached Ghannouchi, called on the public during a press conference on the morning of Wednesday, June 13, to take to the streets and protect public buildings this coming Friday, in response to new protests announced that same day by Salafists. Symbolically, the press conference took place in Cité Ettahrir, a working-class suburb of Tunis where clashes have occurred over the past two days.
