October 2, 2012: A rally organized by women’s and human rights groups took place in front of the Tunis courthouse in support of the Tunis couple who were summoned to appear before a judge this morning. The woman who was raped by police officers and her fiancé were questioned this morning by an investigating judge in Tunis, who must decide whether or not to charge her with “indecent exposure.” Following a questioning session lasting more than two hours conducted by Mohamed Ben Meftah, the victim’s lawyers said they were “optimistic” that the charges against their client and her fiancé for this offense—which carries a sentence of up to six months in prison—would be dropped. The investigating judge must decide in the coming hours or days whether to “dismiss the case or refer it to the appropriate court.”
