October 16, 2012: Remarks by Mustapha Ben Jaffar, president of the ANC (National Congress for Dialogue), a coalition of more than 40 parties that convened at the Palais des Congrès at the initiative of the General Union of Tunisian Workers (UGTT), to resolve the “tensions” that are delaying the drafting of the founding document of post-revolutionary Tunisia by the National Constituent Assembly (ANC). In a sign of ongoing conflicts, two of the three parties in the governing coalition—the Islamist Ennahda party and President Marzouki’s Congress for the Republic—announced on Monday that they would boycott the meeting due to the presence of a despised opposition party, Nidaa Tounès.
