May 29, 2013: Three Femen activists were arrested on the morning of Wednesday, May 29, in Tunis after staging a topless protest in front of the Tunis Courthouse—a first in the Arab world—in support of a Tunisian activist who had been detained since May 19. Facing a crowd of journalists gathered in front of the Tunis courthouse, the three young women—two French and one German—shouted “Free Amina,” the Femen activist imprisoned pending her trial on Thursday in Kairouan (central Tunisia) for illegally carrying tear gas. They were roughly arrested by police officers who dragged them inside the courthouse.
