January 14, 2014: Across from the theater, the Leagues for the Protection of the Revolution (LPR) waved flags and sang songs, with the ever-present Ricoba on the microphone. On Habib Bourguiba Avenue in Tunis, several thousand Tunisians gathered to commemorate the third anniversary of former President Ben Ali’s departure, the culmination of the regional uprisings that began on December 17, 2010. Political factions of all stripes mingled and squabbled along the avenue: on one side, the Islamists with Ennahda, the leagues, and even a new anarchist Islamist movement; on the other, the left and the opposition, commemorating both the departure of the former regime and the memory of the martyrs of the revolution and political martyrs.
