May 17, 2014: A demonstration in support of blogger Azyz Amami and photographer Sabri Ben Mlouka—who were arrested earlier in the week—escalated into clashes with the police. There were baton blows, brutal arrests, and a photographer was assaulted. Some 200 protesters had gathered in front of the Ministry of the Interior on Habib Bourguiba Avenue; after a few speeches, the young people attempted to block traffic on the avenue, triggering a clash with the police.
