October 18, 2014: At the Sidi Mansour theater in Sidi Mansour, a town in the northern suburbs of Sfax—the country’s second-largest city—more than 10,000 Ennahda supporters gathered for a major rally of the Islamist party. Under a blazing sun, Rached Ghannouchi, the party’s president, led an election rally featuring presentations of the two Ennahdha slates (Sfax 1 and 2), speeches by the candidates, and a closing address by Ghannouchi.
