December 2, 2014: Rached Ghannouchi, President of Ennahda, in discussion with members of his party, attends the opening of the session in his capacity as party president. This was the first meeting of the 217 members of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People (ARP) elected on October 26, an election won by the Nidaa Tounès party (86 seats) ahead of the Islamist Ennahda party (69 seats), which had held a majority until then. This first meeting was presided over by longtime activist Ali Ben Salem, in his capacity as the senior-most member of this new assembly.
