December 17, 2014: Outgoing Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki held a campaign rally for his reelection in Sidi Bouzid, where the revolution began four years ago following the self-immolation of Mohamed Bouazizi.Moncef Marzouki drew a crowd of nearly a thousand people to the city’s stadium. “Sidi Bouzid has become a global symbol. More than any other, this city has a duty to protect the revolution,” he declared. According to him, “the balance of powers is essential to ensure that dictatorship does not return and to strengthen the foundations of the nascent democracy.”
