December 21, 2014: First press statements by Mohasen Marzouk, campaign manager. As soon as voting ended at 6:00 p.m., rumors began circulating of a landslide victory for Beji Caïd Essebsi, the candidate for the Nidaa Tounes party. With a lead of 8 to 10 points according to the polls, Beji Caid Essebsi won Tunisia’s first free presidential election since the 2011 revolution. Upon this announcement, large numbers of supporters gathered to celebrate the projected victory outside the party’s campaign headquarters in the very upscale Berges du Lac neighborhood of Tunis.
