September 1, 2015: Amina, the former Tunisian Femen member. A few dozen people demonstrated Tuesday in Tunis to protest a bill proposed by President Béji Caïd Essebsi aimed at “turning the page on the past,” which, in the name of national “reconciliation,” amnesty for individuals prosecuted for corruption in exchange for restitution and a financial penalty. “No to reconciliation with the corrupt,” “No, we will not forgive!” chanted the demonstrators gathered—amid a very heavy police presence, both in plain clothes and uniform—in front of the headquarters of the Tunisian General Labor Union (UGTT).
