August 3, 2016: Following a meeting of the parties in the National Union coalition, Tunisian President Béji Caïd Essebsi met with Youssef Chahed to present him with the official letter appointing him as Prime Minister and tasking him with forming the new Tunisian national unity government within the next 30 days, following the dismissal of Habib Essid last weekend. Previously the Minister of Local Affairs, the 40-year-old succeeds Habib Essid as head of the government. On Saturday, members of parliament withdrew their confidence in his government, just 18 months after his appointment.
