May 24, 2017: Outside the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Youssef Chahed made his first statement to the press following the first 24 hours since the launch of an ambitious anti-corruption program in Tunisia. The wave of arrests of prominent figures marks the beginning of an ambitious anti-corruption program initiated and promised by the head of government during his inauguration nine months ago. During this brief statement, Youssef Chahed declared: “It’s either corruption or the state; it’s either corruption or Tunisia. Together, we will stand up for Tunisia,” concluding with, “Like all Tunisians, I have chosen Tunisia, and I tell them that the government is fulfilling its responsibilities to fight corruption.”
