June 24, 2017: The kitchen. At Océane’s home—an Ivorian migrant living in a working-class neighborhood in Tunis. She lives in a two-bedroom house that she shares with her son Eden and five other Ivorian women. Océane arrived in Tunisia in 2010 as a student and has been living here undocumented for the past five years, which prevents her from working legally. Two years ago, Eden was born; this joyful little boy has become her reason for living, and she hopes to find a place where she can live a normal life and raise her son. “I estimate that to live comfortably in Tunisia, I’d need between 800 and 1,000 dinars. Usually, I’m more like 350. Between diapers and food, the money goes fast.” The young woman works irregularly: she has a few employers who call her, as needed, to clean their homes. She earns between 25 and 30 dinars a day.
