May 1, 2019: Closing ceremony of the first founding convention of the new Tahya Tounes party at the Radès Hall. Youssef Chahed, the party’s undeclared leader, delivered a one-hour closing speech, but he entered as head of government and left as head of government—neither as a new member nor, much less, as a presidential candidate for this new party, which emerged from the National Coalition’s parliamentary group and remains an unconditional supporter of its head of government. “Thanks to you, today the government is no longer alone. I no longer feel alone. Support for the government has grown stronger since the formation of the Coalition’s parliamentary group. It has gained even more strength with the creation of Tahya Tounes. When people tell me today that the party is taking advantage of the government, I reply that it is precisely the opposite. It is the government that benefits from the support of Tahya Tounes,” Chahed will declare.
