June 27, 2019: Once again, the heart of Tunis was struck by a terrorist attack, which ISIS claimed responsibility for that same evening. A young Tunisian man blew himself up this morning at 11 a.m. near a police car in the historic and commercial heart of Tunis on Habib Bourguiba Avenue. The toll: one municipal police officer killed and five injured. A few minutes later, a second suicide bombing took place at the Gorjani counterterrorism police barracks at the top of the Tunis medina, leaving three people injured. This coordinated attack, occurring right at the start of the tourist season, specifically targets the Tunisian police forces, which for several years have been successfully combating terrorist groups on Tunisian soil on a daily basis.
