July 25, 2019: Mohamed Ennaceur has just been sworn in as the new President of the Republic for a three-month interim term. At 10 a.m., the death of President Béji Caïd Essebsi was officially announced at the military hospital in Tunis on this Republic Day. There was a flurry of activity in the Assembly of the Representatives of the People; under the Constitution, the Speaker of the Assembly is the interim successor to the deceased President. A number of political figures visited the office of Assembly President Mohamed Ennaceur before he was sworn in later that day as President of the Republic for a three-month interim period, during which early presidential elections will be organized.
