July 27, 2019: As the funeral procession arrived near the cemetery, Tunisian dignitaries walked behind the president’s casket. Mohamed Ennaceur, the new interim president, and Yussef Chahed, head of government, accompanied the family, including the president’s son, Hafedh Caïd Essebsi. State funeral for President of the Republic Béji Caïd Essebsi, who passed away on July 25 at the age of 92. After a ceremony at the presidential palace in Carthage, the funeral procession traveled through the capital, Tunis, to the family vault at the Jellaz Cemetery in Tunis.
