July 27, 2019: In front of the Caïd Essebsi family crypt, the president’s grave is still guarded by the military; the bravest Tunisians have come to pay their last respects and offer a prayer. A state funeral was held for President Béji Caïd Essebsi, who passed away on July 25 at the age of 92. After a ceremony at the presidential palace in Carthage, the funeral procession made its way through the capital, Tunis, to the family crypt in the Jellaz Cemetery in Tunis.
