Earlier that afternoon, the Court of Cassation ordered his immediate release following an appeal filed by his lawyers. Nabil Karoui had been incarcerated at El Mornaguia Prison since August 23 under a detention warrant issued by the Tunis Court of Appeals on suspicion of money laundering and tax evasion. Nabil Karoui is a candidate in the second round of the presidential election, scheduled to take place in four days, and is the president of the country’s second-largest party, Qalb Tounès.
