July 23, 2021: In the emergency room at Mongi Slim Hospital in La Marsa, a northern suburb of Tunis, department head Dr. Nour Nouira and her team are struggling to manage the daily pressures of the COVID-19 crisis. All the rooms, the lobby, and the hallways of the department have been repurposed for COVID-19 patients, while they simultaneously manage routine emergency cases. The strain on the oxygen supply—which is under heavy demand due to the overload of patients—is the major problem, compounded by staff shortages as they grapple with the Delta variant.
