July 25, 2021: Rayen Hamzaoui, the mayor behind the initiative. COVID Crisis. To help and relieve the strain on Tunisia’s healthcare system during the COVID crisis, Rayen Hamzaoui, the young mayor of Ezzahra, in the southern suburbs of Tunis, set up a field hospital with about 20 beds. By appealing to his constituents and local businesses, he was able to fund fully equipped hospital beds with oxygen concentrators. The medical staff consists of volunteer healthcare professionals who are giving up their time off to work at this temporary hospital. Their exceptional dedication and enthusiasm have been praised by the community and patients alike.
