December 17, 2022: On this day, December 17, 2022—the anniversary of the outbreak of the Tunisian revolution in 2010—polling stations opened at 8 a.m. this morning for the first round of the legislative elections. These elections, which feature a very small number of candidates due to a boycott by the majority of political parties, are the first since Tunisian President Kais Saied seized full power and dissolved the National Assembly in July 2021. Tunisian President Kais Saied went to his polling place this morning with his wife to cast his ballot in the first round of the legislative elections. After voting, the President made an official statement to the media in the courtyard of a school in the Ennasr neighborhood of Tunis.
