January 14, 2023: Tensions are running high in Tunis, with several calls for demonstrations against President Kais Saied’s July 25, 2021, coup, on this anniversary of the Tunisian Revolution and Ben Ali’s departure in 2011. Despite the ban on demonstrations, several thousand protesters managed to gather on Habib Bourguiba Avenue to chant slogans against the current president. The famous Tunisian chant “Get out!” echoed all day among supporters of the Salvation Front—mostly Nahda members—who lamented the deeply troubling economic and social situation in Tunisia.
