February 16, 2023: Tunisian journalists organized a protest rally today at the call of the National Union of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) in Kasbah Square, across from the government headquarters, and in several regions of Tunisia. The journalists protested against the harassment of the media by “the authorities,” which was confirmed by the arrest of Noureddine Boutar, the general manager of Mosaïque FM radio. The SNJT stated that this arrest is intended to subjugate the media—including Mosaïque FM in particular—and to manipulate their editorial lines. The union also denounced the pressure exerted by the President of the Republic to secure his control over the media and to target legislation related to the sector, including Decrees 115 and 116.
