October 6, 2024: At 8 a.m., polling stations open across Tunisia for the first round of the presidential election. Three candidates are authorized to run, including one currently in prison serving a 12-year sentence, and incumbent President Kais Saied, whose reelection appears all but certain in the first round. The question this morning is voter turnout. Under very tight security, incumbent President Kais Saied and his wife head to their polling station in Tunis; the president poses for selfies and meets with citizens who have come to vote at his polling station.
