Since the morning, downtown Tunis had been completely blocked off by police, making it impossible for anyone to access Habib Bourguiba Avenue—an extraordinary security measure in the face of serious political, social, economic, and health tensions. In the regions—Sfax, Sousse, Kairouan, Tozeur, and elsewhere—rallies drew far larger crowds of protesters, who attacked the headquarters of the Islamist Ennahda party.
