To everyone’s surprise, the national and international press were barred from this inaugural session, contrary to the practice of media openness that had been in place since the 2011 Tunisian Revolution. Only Tunisian National Television and the state news agency were authorized to cover this opening day. Journalists, at the call of their union, the SNJT, staged an impromptu sit-in in front of the barriers and police officers who were barring them from entering the assembly.
