September 14, 2012: Salafists, acting on the orders of their leader Abu Ayad, attacked the U.S. Embassy in the Berges du Lac neighborhood. The clash between police and protesters demonstrating against the film “The Innocence of Muslims” lasted nearly three hours, with police firing tear gas and live rounds and protesters throwing stones. The toll: two people shot dead and about fifty injured on both sides.
