April 9, 2013: The various leaders and secretaries-general of the parties in the “Union for Tunisia” alliance. On Martyrs’ Day, Bourguiba Avenue in Tunis hosted several political marches. Between the first march by the new political alliance “Union for Tunisia”—which brings together the progressive parties Nidaa Tounes, Al Joumhouri, Al Massar, the Socialist Party, and the Patriotic Party—and the march by supporters of Ennahda and the Leagues for the Protection of the Revolution (LPR)—tensions ran high but were kept under control by a substantial and effective security presence.
