November 27, 2013: The city of Siliana observed a general strike on Wednesday to commemorate the uprising by residents of the region in November 2012, during which they demanded the right to equitable development. Protesters threw stones at security forces, injuring 50 police officers and damaging 10 police vans. Security forces chased the protesters into the city’s neighborhoods, using tear gas. Protesters erected barricades of burning tires and scrap metal on Siliana’s main thoroughfare, and the streets were littered with projectiles.
