January 27, 2016: Yosri Harmessi, on the right, has sewn his lips shut. Settled in a tent in the governorate’s courtyard, these three young unemployed men have been on a hunger strike for several days at the Kasserine governorate, where unemployed graduates have been maintaining their sit-in for several weeks. Gathered in the courtyard and in a large hall, nearly 200 unemployed people are voicing their demands to the government—for work and dignity—just as they did during the 2011 revolution. For the past five years, the situation has not improved, and the neglect of inland regions is even more striking; poverty and destitution are affecting more and more families.
