November 1, 2016: In her garage, Samira Shgaier has set up a small workshop where she produces moringa-based woven goods and other products made from crops grown in her garden for the nonprofit “Acacias for All,” She actively participates in the social enterprise development program that trains farmers from Sarah Toumi’s association. Since she was 11 years old, Sarah Toumi has been a firm believer in collective action. In 2008, she founded Dream, a “network for exchange and action for development” aimed at young people. Now 29, Sarah Toumi left Paris in 2012 to return to the Tunisian countryside and her childhood memories. Unable to forget the inequality and poverty that prevailed in Bir Salah, her grandfather’s village in the Sfax region (central Tunisia), she founded Acacias for All, a “social enterprise.” Her goal: to reduce the water shortage in this community affected by climate change. This initiative earned Sarah Toumi the distinction of being the only Arab and African woman to be included in the 2016 global ranking of the top 30 entrepreneurs under 30, compiled by the American magazine Forbes.
