November 1, 2016: Samira Ismail has been tending her moringa plants in her garden since May; the plant takes up all her time and fills her home as she hopes to find a new source of income for her family. Sarah Toumi supports these women on a daily basis and regularly offers them training to help them get the most out of this new crop. Since she was 11 years old, Sarah Toumi has been a firm believer in collective action. In 2008, she founded Dream, a “network for exchange and action for development” aimed at young people. Now 29, Sarah Toumi left Paris in 2012 to return to the Tunisian countryside and reconnect with her childhood memories. Unable to forget the inequality and poverty that prevailed in Bir Salah, her grandfather’s village in the Sfax region (Central Tunisia), she founded Acacias for All, a “social enterprise.” Her goal: to reduce the water shortage in this community affected by climate change. This initiative earned Sarah Toumi the distinction of being the only Arab and African woman to be included in the 2016 global ranking of the top 30 entrepreneurs under 30, compiled by the American magazine Forbes.
