November 1, 2016: At the home of her grandparents, Ramadan Sghaier and Magida Laroussi. Since she was 11, Sarah Toumi has been a firm believer in collective action. In 2008, she founded Dream, a “network for exchange and action for development” aimed at young people. Now 29, Sarah Toumi left Paris in 2012 to return to the Tunisian countryside and reconnect with her childhood memories. Unable to forget the inequality and poverty that prevailed in Bir Salah, her grandfather’s village in the Sfax region (central Tunisia), she created Acacias for All, a “social enterprise.” Her goal: to reduce the water shortage in this community affected by climate change. This initiative earned Sarah Toumi the distinction of being the only Arab and African woman to be included in the 2016 global ranking of the top 30 entrepreneurs under 30, compiled by the American magazine Forbes.
