July 26, 2021: In the Chehias Souk, right next to the Prime Minister’s Office, people go about their daily business while watching live coverage of the events at the Bardo. The day after President Kais Saeid announced the dismissal of the head of government as part of his constitutional “coup,” Kasbah Square in Tunis—the center of executive power, home to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Defense, is cordoned off and emptied of its civil servants, who were barred by the army from returning to their posts this morning. As the day draws to a close, Kais Saied, who now holds all powers, has announced a complete administrative shutdown across the country for two days.
