May 25: In Sidi Bouzid, black-market alcohol sales have increased. The neighbors of the dealers went to the police, who did not respond, so they turned to the Salafists to intervene. Negotiations with the bar owners were unsuccessful. The Salafists and the neighbors demanded the closure and relocation of the two bars and two warehouses from downtown Sidi Bouzid to the industrial zone. Following the attack on the mosque, the Salafists organized a march (1,000 people). During a speech in front of the Al-Rahma Mosque, they demanded: “A total ban on the sale of beer and wine in Sidi Bouzid.”
