April 10: Aya Khiari, a 22-year-old law student who is very active in organizations advocating for women’s rights, took the floor at the rally to support and advocate for gender parity in the July 24 constitutional election. This Sunday at the Palais des Congrès provided the occasion for a major debate among members of civil society organizations on behalf of the citizens’ initiative for active citizenship. A large petition was launched for a citizens’ initiative: “The revolution for dignity and freedom affirmed our people’s determination to fully exercise their sovereignty by establishing a republican and democratic system, breaking with dictatorship and corruption, and putting an end to the decline of our institutions. Considering that our people’s aspiration is to build a civil society that enshrines a culture of citizenship and freedom, we believe that the drafting of a new Constitution requires a national consensus, whose principles must draw inspiration from the heritage of our civilization, the values of modernity, and the achievements of our people.”
