April 9, 2013: Members of the Leagues for the Protection of the Revolution protested and attempted to confront the democrats but were blocked by the police. On Martyrs’ Day, Bourguiba Avenue in Tunis hosted several political marches. Between the first march by the new political alliance “Union for Tunisia”—comprising the progressive parties Nidaa Tounes, Al Joumhouri, Al Massar, the Socialist Party, and the Patriotic Party—and the march by supporters of Ennahdha and the Leagues for the Protection of the Revolution (LPR), tensions were at their peak but were kept under control by a substantial and effective security presence.
