April 9, 2013: Taieb Baccouche, Secretary-General of Nidaa Tounes. On Martyrs’ Day, Bourguiba Avenue in Tunis was the site of several political marches. Between the first march by the new political alliance “Union for Tunisia”—comprising the progressive parties Nidaa Tounes, Al Joumhouri, Al Massar, the Socialist Party, and the Patriotic Party, and the march by supporters of Ennahda and the Leagues for the Protection of the Revolution (LPR), tensions ran high but were kept under control by a substantial and effective security presence.
