Several hundred people responded to Ansar Chariâa’s call to demonstrate at the Kasbah to commemorate December 17—the date marking the start of the Tunisian revolution—but also, and above all, to warn against a return to repression against their organization. The demonstrators consisted mainly of supporters of the Ansar Chariâa movement and a few members of the Leagues for the Protection of the Revolution. A heavy police presence was noted at the scene, and participants in the demonstration were systematically searched by the organizers.
